Golar LNG has launched a strategic review that could open the door to a sale, merger or other deal, as the company looks to speed up growth in floating LNG. The Nasdaq-listed FLNG specialist said its board has started a formal process to evaluate strategic alternatives, with Goldman Sachs brought in as financial advisor. The move follows earlier signals from chairman Tor Olav Trøim that the company was looking at ways to unlock more value from its repositioning as a pure-play FLNG player. Golar said the review will cover its full platform, including its FLNG assets, long-term contract backlog and project pipeline. Options on the table include a full or partial sale, business combination, asset divestments or changes to its corporate structure. There is no timeline for the process and no guarantee it will lead to a transaction. The company has spent the past few years reshaping itself around floating liquefaction, exiting the LNG shipping segment with the sale of its last carrier, Golar Arctic, in 2025 for $24m. Golar now operates two FLNG units — Hilli and Gimi — with a third under construction, giving it around 8.6 mtpa of liquefaction capacity across its portfolio. The company also has a fourth unit under consideration with liquefaction capacity from 2.0 to 5.4 mtpa. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsNorway
