Image Credit: Peninsula Global bunker supplier Peninsula is assessing a range of energy-efficiency measures across its fleet as the shipping industry looks for practical ways to cut fuel consumption and emissions. The work includes evaluating hull cleaning, oil purification systems, fuel injection improvements, LNG efficiency enhancements and voyage optimisation tools, it said in a statement on its website on Tuesday . Peninsula is also exploring technologies such as wind propulsion systems, like rigid sails for larger vessels. The firm added that improving fuel-consumption monitoring is a key focus, particularly for older vessels that lack detailed sensor systems. Peninsula said measures such as weather routing and voyage planning tools could help reduce unnecessary vessel movements and waiting times, potentially delivering bunker fuel savings of 5-15% depending on vessel type and operating conditions. "Our approach is to assess a range of options and identify where they can make a practical difference across our operations,” Maria Angeles Lopez , decarbonisation manager at Peninsula, said.
