File Image / Pixabay The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and container shipping firm MSC have signed an agreement to support the adoption of alternative marine fuels, including bio-LNG. Under the MoU signed, the two parties will explore ways to increase the use of alternative fuels and improve vessel energy efficiency, the MPA said in a press release issued on Wednesday . Bio-LNG is a cleaner alternative to conventional LNG and can be used as drop-in fuel in dual-fuel LNG ships.  They will also examine new routes and services to strengthen connectivity. The partnership covers maritime digitalisation initiatives aimed at improving vessel arrivals and port operations. MPA and MSC will also work together on workforce development. MSC plans to support internship and scholarship opportunities through the Singapore Maritime Foundation's MaritimeONE programme. The agreement comes as MSC marks 30 years since establishing its Asia regional office in Singapore. "This partnership reflects the strong collaboration between MPA and MSC in driving sustainability and digitalisation in the maritime sector," Ang Wee Keong , CEO of MPA, said.
