Maersk has warned customers that the upcoming dry season could lead to navigation restrictions on the Amazon River, potentially disrupting operations to and from Manaus between October 2026 and early 2027. Based on an initial advisory issued by the Western Amazon River Authority and data from Brazil’s National Water Agency (ANA), the carrier said current forecasts indicate a high likelihood of reduced river draft and possible closures during the low-water season. According to Maersk’s projections, vessel capacity restrictions could begin between weeks 41 and 44 (October), followed by a possible river closure during weeks 45 to 48 (November). Capacity restrictions are then expected to continue between weeks 49 and 53 (December). The carrier said deteriorating river conditions could result in logistical constraints, reduced vessel capacity and higher operating costs. If navigation conditions worsen further, requiring the use of floating piers or resulting in temporary river closures, freight rates may be affected and an additional surcharge could be introduced. Maersk said it is continuing to monitor water levels and navigational conditions closely and will provide customers with further updates as the situation develops.
