Maersk has announced immediate structural changes to its WAF6 service, which will now transit through the Red Sea and Suez Canal as part of the carrier’s gradual return to the trans-Suez corridor. The WAF6 service, operated exclusively by Maersk, connects the Middle East, the Mediterranean and West Africa. Under the revised routing, vessels will sail via the Red Sea between Salalah and the West Mediterranean instead of using the Cape of Good Hope route. Maersk said the change marks another step in restoring services through the Suez Canal following recent adjustments to several of its Asia-Europe and Middle East networks. The carrier added that it will continue to closely monitor the security situation in the Middle East. If conditions in the Red Sea deteriorate, Maersk said contingency plans are in place, including the option to revert individual sailings or the entire service back to the Cape of Good Hope route.
