Piracy & Sea Robbery – Straits of Malacca & Singapore (SOMS) ReCAAP 2025 – 1st Quarter Report Loss Prevention Loss Prevention Published: April 28, 2025 Contact author Download article pdf Further to Security Note SN09 (Piracy & Sea Robbery – Straits of Malacca and Singapore), the Club would like to draw Members’ attention to the recently released ReCAAP report that highlights the 48% rise of piracy and sea robbery incidents (43 incidents) during the first quarter of 2025 by comparison with the 29 incidents reported the period of 2024. None of the incidents were classified as Category 1 (crew subject to physical violence, abandoned, kidnapped, killed or vessel hijacked), however, Members are reminded to ensure a high level of vigilance and maintain sharp look-out while transiting SOMS, and to report all incidents immediately to the nearest coastal State, in line with the guidance provided in the ReCAAP poster - Guidelines & Reporting of Incidents by Vessels - SOMS.   2025 CATEGORY 1  CATEGORY 2 CATEGORY 3 CATEGORY 4 Most significant incident Moderately significant Less significant  Least significant - 4 18 20   The 1 incident where the pirates/robbers failed to board the vessel, is excluded from the above table.
