Baltic Dry Index Extends Losing Run Into 8th Day in Dry Bulk Market , International Shipping News 10/06/2026 The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the eighth consecutive session on Tuesday, dropping 3.4% to its lowest since May 1st at 2,818 points. Sustained weakness across larger vessel segments continued to weigh. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slipped by 5.9% to 4,441 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.6% to 2,205 points.
