DHL Supply Chain has launched a new logistics solution for US healthcare systems, combining centralized inventory management with dedicated transportation and final-mile delivery. The service is designed to manage the movement of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and equipment across expanding healthcare networks. It connects hospitals, outpatient facilities and physician practices through a consolidated logistics model. Central hubs to manage healthcare supplies At the center of the new offering is a customizable consolidated service center. The facility acts as a central hub where healthcare products can be stored, prepared and managed before being distributed to individual points of care. DHL said the model can provide healthcare operators with greater visibility over inventory while reducing the need to hold products across multiple locations. Its warehouse management system tracks inventory and product movements, while predictive analytics can support replenishment and inventory positioning. Healthcare customers will also be able to introduce AI, robotics and automation within the consolidated service centers to improve handling efficiency and accuracy. “The supply chain is an essential part of patient care, yet many health systems manage inventory, preparation, and transportation across disconnected locations, networks, and providers,” said Jim Saponaro, President, Life Sciences and Healthcare, DHL Supply Chain North America. According to Saponaro, bringing these activities together can help healthcare providers improve inventory visibility and reduce supply chain complexity. Dedicated transport and final-mile delivery The warehouse operation is supported by dedicated transportation connecting the central hub with hospitals and other healthcare facilities. DHL fleets will carry consolidated loads, bulk supplies and large medical equipment to receiving locations.
