Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has named YM Wayfinder , the third vessel in its series of 15,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships being built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries . The naming ceremony took place on June 26 at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The vessel was officially named by Mrs. Wei-Nung Kao, wife of Yang Ming Chairman Feng-Ming Tsai. The 15,600 TEU vessel measures 364.97 metres in length and 51 metres in beam. It is equipped with a high-pressure dual-fuel main engine capable of operating on LNG and low-sulfur fuel oil, with LNG expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 20% compared with conventional marine fuel. Yang Ming noted that its two sister ships, YM Willpower and YM Worthiness , are already operating primarily on LNG and have collectively bunkered more than 11,158 metric tonnes of LNG, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 12,532 metric tonnes . YM Wayfinder is scheduled to enter service on 1 July on the carrier’s Asia–North Europe FE3 service, which connects Qingdao, Ningbo, Yantian, Singapore, Felixstowe, Antwerp and Hamburg . According to Yang Ming, the addition of the new LNG dual-fuel vessel will improve operational efficiency, strengthen network competitiveness and support the company’s strategy to provide lower-carbon container transportation services.
