The consolidation of vessel tracking firms continues apace with news today that the UK’s MariTrace has been acquired by French ocean data intelligence firm SINAY. No price for the acquisition was revealed. The move builds on SINAY’s earlier acquisitions of marine weather analytics provider OpenOcean in 2022 and container tracking service Safecube in 2024, with the company determined to combine vessel, cargo and environmental data into a single source of operational intelligence for maritime stakeholders.SINAY CEO and founder Yanis Souami said: “This acquisition fully aligns with our mission to become the leading full end-to-end supply-chain visibility platform in the maritime industry. By bringing together vessel tracking, cargo visibility and environmental intelligence, we are giving customers the tools they need to make better-informed operational and commercial decisions in an increasingly complex risk environment.” Vessel tracking services have become hot property in recent years. Kpler has added well-known brands MarineTraffic and FleetMon, as well as Spire Maritime, while S&P Global acquired the automatic identification system (AIS) business of Orbcomm as well as Tradenet and its live vessel-tracking platform, Market Intelligence Network (MINT). Meanwhile, Lloyd’s List Intelligence has been investing in satellite partnerships and multi-source data fusion to strengthen coverage and verification in an increasingly complex tracking environment. Vessel tracking has evolved from a niche operational tool into critical infrastructure for commodity trading, sanctions compliance and supply chain management. As data ownership concentrates in fewer hands, concerns are emerging around pricing power, access restrictions and competition. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsFrance United Kingdom
