The Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration , Xiamen Port Authority and Xiamen Free Trade Zone Commission have jointly released guidelines covering ship methanol bunkering, according to a Fujian authority statement on Tuesday. The guidelines are the first safety standard in Fujian Province specifically focused on methanol fuel bunkering for ships. They establish requirements covering the full bunkering process, including the qualifications of fuel suppliers, bunkering vessel equipment, hose inspections, personnel certification and protective equipment. Operators will also need to complete a dedicated safety assessment and prepare an emergency response plan before an operation begins. During bunkering, continuous monitoring is required, while operations will be subject to weather conditions. After the transfer, fuel pipelines must be purged and inerted. Xiamen Port has previously carried out ship-to-ship bunkering involving biofuels and LNG. The new guidelines provide a regulatory and operational framework for the port's future methanol bunkering activities. Ship & Bunker News Team To contact the editor responsible
