Pilbara Ports has strengthened its long-standing relationship with the Port Hedland Peace Memorial Seafarers Centre through a new Services Support Deed valued at approximately AUD 1.1 million over two years. The agreement, which formalises an existing partnership with the Centre, a member of the Mission to Seafarers, reaffirms Pilbara Ports’ commitment to the welfare of seafarers visiting the region and provides a clear framework for ongoing service delivery. Under the deed, Pilbara Ports will continue to provide funding and in-kind support enabling essential services including transport to and from vessels, access to communication, seafarer centre operations, onboard welfare visits and chaplaincy support. The Centre already delivers a wide range of crew welfare services encompassing recreational spaces, internet access and practical assistance for visiting seafarers. Samuel McSkimming, Chief Executive Officer of Pilbara Ports, described seafarers as the backbone of global trade and emphasised that providing a welcoming and supportive environment in Port Hedland is both the right approach and a fundamental component of safe port operations. He noted that the deed provides a structured framework for an already strong collaborative relationship. Peter Bullard, CEO of the Port Hedland Peace Memorial Seafarers Centre, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, describing the formalised partnership as providing the certainty needed to continue delivering services focused on the social, material and spiritual wellbeing of visiting crews. Pilbara Ports is also progressing the development of a new Seafarers Centre in Port Hedland, which will further enhance facilities and strengthen welfare support for seafarers into the future.
