MSC has updated its cargo acceptance rules for shipments from Europe to Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region. Under the latest arrangement, cargo discharged at Jeddah or King Abdullah Port (KAP) will only be accepted when its final destination is within Saudi Arabia. Therefore, shipments booked with Jeddah or KAP as the port of discharge must have a consignee located in Saudi Arabia. The measure applies to cargo moving from North Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Gulf bookings remain open Despite the restriction, MSC continues to accept bookings from Europe to ports in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and Oman. For these shipments, the respective Gulf port can continue to be listed as the port of discharge. MSC said eligible cargo is currently moving through King Abdullah Port using a multimodal routing solution. Under this arrangement, cargo arrives at KAP before moving by truck across Saudi Arabia to Dammam. It then connects with feeder services to ports in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq. Alternative routing for restricted cargo Some cargo is prohibited from transiting through Saudi Arabia. MSC said these shipments can still be accepted using alternative routing solutions.
