FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin India has imposed an immediate ban on sugar exports, moving the export policy for raw, white, and refined sugar from “restricted” to “prohibited” until September 30, 2026 (or until further orders). According to GAC India, the decision, issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on May 13, is aimed at increasing domestic availability and helping keep prices stable amid inflation concerns. However, the ban is not absolute. Sugar exports to the European Union and the United States under existing tariff rate quota (TRQ) arrangements are still allowed, as are shipments under the CXL quota system.
