China’s Wison New Energies has signed a pre-FEED contract with Papua New Guinea’s national petroleum and energy company Kumul Petroleum Holdings for an FLNG unit set to work in Papua New Guinea. With an expected capacity of 1.5 mtpa, Papua New Guinea’s first FLNG is planned to be deployed to the Gulf of Papua, and the pre-FEED will be completed by June 2025. Kumul Petroleum Holdings managing director, Wapu Sonk, said the value of the contract with Wison New Energies was around $10m. According to the Papuan firm, the pre-FEED study is necessary to ensure that the full scope, cost, schedule, risk, and economic value of the project are understood before deciding on moving to FEED and a final investment decision.
