MMI Daily Iron Ore Index Report February 12 2026 in Chinese iron ore and steelmaking prices 12/02/2026 Iron ore futures showed an overall weak trend today, with the main contract I2605 eventually closing at 762 RMB/ton, down 0.2% from the previous trading day. Spot prices remained largely flat compared to the previous session. Traders were generally less enthusiastic in quoting prices, while steel mills showed limited inquiry activity. Overall market transactions were subdued and sluggish. According to the latest inventory data from 10 key ports, total iron ore inventory fell to 11.674 billion tons, a decrease of 1.05 million tons week-on-week. This change in data reflects a steady rebound in daily hot metal output, which has driven the release of immediate demand and led to destocking at major ports. It indicates that demand for iron ore is experiencing a tangible recovery, providing rela vely strong bottom-line support for market prices. However, as the Spring Fes val holiday draws near, declining market participation due to holidays has significantly dampened trading activity. Moreover, the persistently high inventory levels at ports and within steel mills continue to exert significant pressure on iron ore’s upside potential. The improvement in demand may take some me to be fully reflected in prices. Therefore, iron ore prices are expected to maintain a range-bound fluctua on trend in the short term.
