MMI Daily Iron Ore Index Report February 09 2026 in Chinese iron ore and steelmaking prices 09/02/2026 Today, the DCE iron ore market trended weaker. The benchmark contract, I2605, closed at 761.5 RMB/tonne, down 0.46% from the previous trading session. Spot prices in the physical market fell by 1–3 RMB/tonne compared to the prior day. Traders displayed average enthusiasm for quoting, mostly following market trends, while steel mills made few inquiries and largely maintained a wait-and-see stance. Consequently, the overall trading atmosphere was relatively subdued. Regarding fundamental data, SMM statistics for last week show total global iron ore shipments at 34.8 million tonnes, a week-on-week increase of 13.3%. Shipments from both mainstream origins (Australia, Brazil) and non-mainstream origins (such as India) recorded growth. Meanwhile, SMM statistics indicate that arrivals at Chinese ports stood at 27.63 million tonnes, a week-on-week decline of 5.9%. Looking ahead, although the recent rise in port discharge rates combined with the decline in arrivals has provided phased relief to supply-side pressure, overall visible port inventories remain at high levels. There is no clear inflection point for destocking as yet, and the suppressive effect of high inventory persists. On the demand side, as the Spring Festival approaches, steel mill restocking has essentially concluded, and the pace of raw material procurement has slowed, significantly weakening the support for iron ore prices. Furthermore, the macro and news landscape is currently in a relative vacuum, leaving the market devoid of substanƟve bullish drivers. Therefore, in the short term, iron ore prices are expected to struggle to shake off this weak pattern, likely continuing a trend of low-level volatility.
