Fincantieri will play a key role in the transfer of two FREMM frigates from Italy to Greece . Italy and Greece signed an Implementing Arrangement in Rome covering the transfer of Carlo Bergamini and Virginio Fasan . Both vessels are currently in service with the Italian Navy. The two frigates will be transferred to the Hellenic Navy, with Fincantieri supporting the process. Fincantieri to provide long-term support The agreement follows a Memorandum of Cooperation and Declaration of Intent signed by Italy and Greece in September 2025. Fincantieri will support both the transfer and the vessels throughout their lifecycle. The agreement also covers the initial and long-term support required to maintain the operational readiness of the two ships. Greek industry will participate in maintenance activities and the integration of new systems aboard the vessels. The two FREMM frigates were designed and built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy. Agreement strengthens Italy-Greece cooperation The agreement could also support wider industrial cooperation between the two countries. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, said the transfer creates new opportunities between the company and the Greek industrial sector. “The introduction of the FREMM frigates into the Hellenic Navy represents a first step towards broader integration of expertise, technologies and industrial capabilities,” Folgiero said. The agreement was signed in the presence of Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and Greek National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias.
