Ellerman City Liners has updated its Bilbao to UK Express (iBEX 1) service, offering weekly connections between Bilbao, Rotterdam and Tilbury. The shortsea service connects northern Spain with the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. It also provides rail connections within Spain. Ellerman currently lists iBEX 1 among its European shortsea services. Weekly Bilbao-Rotterdam-Tilbury connection The updated iBEX 1 rotation is: Bilbao – Rotterdam – Tilbury – Bilbao Northbound, the service offers a transit time of three days from Bilbao to Rotterdam . Cargo from Bilbao can reach Tilbury in four days . Southbound, the transit time is four days from Rotterdam to Bilbao and three days from Tilbury to Bilbao. The service operates weekly and offers different container equipment types. Rail links extend Spanish coverage Ellerman also offers rail connections between Bilbao and Tarragona , providing additional inland options for customers in Spain. The carrier’s service information highlights its wider rail network as part of the iBEX offering. Ellerman’s current website also confirms that iBEX 1 remains an established weekly shortsea product rather than a newly launched service. Ellerman highlights emissions savings Ellerman promotes shortsea shipping as a lower-emission alternative to road transport. According to the updated service information, moving cargo by sea can deliver significant CO₂ savings compared with road alternatives. Ellerman’s website states that emissions can be cut by more than 50% when cargo moves by sea instead of road. The updated iBEX 1 offering forms part of Ellerman’s wider shortsea network connecting the UK, Iberia, the Netherlands, Poland and the Baltic region.
