Turkon Line’s new LNG-powered container ship, Kaşif Kalkavan, has completed its first port call at Marport, one of Türkiye’s largest container terminals. The 4,000 TEU vessel is recognised as Türkiye’s first and largest domestically built LNG-fuelled container ship. Built entirely with Turkish capital and engineering expertise, the ship represents a milestone for the country’s maritime and shipbuilding industries. Kaşif Kalkavan is designed to operate on five different fuel types, including LNG. The vessel is equipped with technologies aimed at reducing emissions while providing greater operational flexibility. Marport hosted a ceremony to mark the ship’s maiden call. The event was attended by Nevzat Kalkavan, Chairman of Turkon Holding, O. Alkın Kalkavan, CEO of Turkon Line, and executives from both Turkon Line and Marport. The port call also highlights the long-standing partnership between Marport and Turkon Line. According to the companies, Marport’s infrastructure and operational capabilities will support Turkon Line’s next-generation fleet with efficient and reliable terminal services. The companies said the collaboration will continue to strengthen the development of sustainable container shipping and port operations in Türkiye.
