Adriatic Gate Container Terminal, operated by ICTSI in Croatia, has strengthened its links to the Far East through the launch of MSC Phoenix service at the Port of Rijeka. This development represents a significant step forward in establishing Rijeka as a key strategic gateway in the Adriatic region. The Phoenix service provides a new direct and regular mainline connection linking the Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean with major ports in the Far East. It improves access to important manufacturing and consumer markets while increasing supply chain efficiency for importers and exporters across the region. With this addition, AGCT now has two weekly direct services coming from the Far East to best serve not only Croatia, but also key landlocked markets in Southeast and Central Europe,” said Iñigo Mendibe, AGCT chief executive officer. The service follows this port rotation: Busan – Ningbo – Shanghai – Shekou – Singapore – Ashdod – Haifa – Trieste – Koper – Rijeka – Ashdod – Singapore – Busan. It initially deploys vessels with capacities ranging from 8,000 to 11,000 TEUs, with plans to upgrade to larger ships exceeding 13,000 TEUs. This upgrade will further increase capacity on the Asia-Adriatic trade route. The Phoenix service, which bolsters the Port of Rijeka’s international connectivity and reinforces AGCT’s role as a central Adriatic hub in MSC’s global network, made its first call at the terminal on June 2 with the arrival of the MSC AGAMEMNON VIII.
