UK house prices fall below £300,000 mark in April in World Economy News 09/05/2026 UK house prices dropped 0.1% in April to £299,313, falling below the £300,000 threshold for the first time since January, according to Halifax data released Friday. The monthly decline of approximately £296 from March’s £299,609 marks a continuation of slowing momentum in the housing market. Annual growth decelerated to just 0.4%, adding £1,153 compared with April 2025’s £298,160, representing the lowest rate since late 2025. The annual growth rate has declined sharply from a peak of 3.3% recorded in April 2025 and from 1.1% in January 2026. On a quarterly basis, house prices increased 0.2% in the three months to April. First-time buyer average prices fell to £238,908, the lowest level this year. Regional performance showed divergence, with Northern Ireland and Scotland outperforming while London and the South East weakened. For UK housebuilders, the data reflects pressure on margins as house prices stabilize while build costs continue rising. Forward order books remain solid and spring trading has been resilient, with major builders largely on track with full-year guidance. The outlook depends on whether elevated mortgage rates persist through the spring selling season. Source: Investing.com 2026-05-09 hellenicshippingnews... tweet Share
