Hapag-Lloyd has enhanced its Import Overview tool to provide US customers with greater visibility into port demurrage deadlines. Eligible customers can now view the Import Demurrage Last Free Day (LFD) for their containers through the carrier’s Online Business Suite. The displayed date indicates the container’s final free day at the port before demurrage charges apply. It depends on container availability, movement type, applicable tariffs or contracts and operational status. At ports using the PayCargo Container Payment Portal, customers will also find a link to the portal’s watchlist. They can use it to check the last free day and pay applicable demurrage charges. Access is limited to the consignee and notify party assigned to the relevant shipment. Other parties will not be able to view the information. Hapag-Lloyd noted that the displayed dates depend on the availability and status of the underlying shipment and container data. The new visibility feature does not change applicable tariff terms or operational conditions. US-flag shipments are exempt.
