FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin Yemen’s Coast Guard intercepted the Comoros-flagged tanker Nereida in the Gulf of Aden on September 6 after it discharged an “unauthorized” cargo at the Houthi-controlled Ras Isa port in Al-Hudaydah governorate, according to Yemeni government sources. Authorities said the cargo was delivered without prior government approval and without undergoing procedures under the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM). The authorities said Nereida switched off its Automatic Identification System (AIS) during parts of its voyage, with its signal briefly reappearing south of Al-Hudaydah after leaving Ras Isa for the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
