File Image / Pixabay Hong Kong will launch two new incentive schemes on June 16 aimed at encouraging the use of alternative marine fuels. The programmes will run for three years and provide financial support for vessels using, carrying or bunkering LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen and biofuel blends above B20 in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong   Marine Department (MD)  said in an announcement on Friday . Under the Port Dues Incentive Scheme for Green Maritime Fuel-related Vessels, eligible oceangoing vessels can receive rebates equivalent to 25% to 50% of port dues paid. The scheme covers vessels powered by alternative marine fuels, vessels bunkering those fuels in Hong Kong and ships carrying green fuels for supply in the port. The MD said the initiative is intended to help offset the higher cost of green fuels and stimulate demand for bunkering services. Authorities expect the programme to attract more than 1,000 visits by alternative-fuelled vessels during its three-year term . A separate Green Vessels Registration Incentive Scheme will provide annual payments of HK$60,000 (about $7,600) to Hong Kong-registered vessels using LNG, methanol, ammonia or hydrogen as their primary propulsion fuel.
