The Port Authority of Valencia managed 32.8 million metric tons of cargo in the first five months of the year, marking a 3.59% decrease from the same period last year. The drop was mainly due to a sharp decline in solid bulk cargo, especially construction materials, which fell by nearly 60%. Container traffic, however, remained stable, reaching 2,317,507 TEUs a slight increase of 0.17% compared to the previous year. According to data from the Valenciaport Statistics Office, the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia handled 7,050,430 metric tons of cargo in May, representing a 4.17% decline, along with 504,061 containers, down 0.19%. Over the past twelve months, the port complex recorded 78.8 million metric tons of cargo, a 2.22% decrease, while container traffic totalled 5.66 million TEUs, showing a 2.13% rise. Among the individual ports, Sagunto posted positive results with 3,449,800 metric tons, an increase of 5.59%, supported by strong growth in liquid bulk and automobile traffic. Gandia also performed well, handling 142,202 metric tons, up 57.82%. Cargo flows showed contrasting trends between exports and imports. Exports reached 9.9 million metric tons, down 4.12%, while imports increased to 10.6 million metric tons, up 6.77%. In container terms, loaded TEUs for export decreased by 2% to 367,640 units, whereas unloaded containers grew by 10.87% to 461,175 units. China continued to be Valenciaport’s leading trading partner, with trade volume totalling 4,195,649 metric tons, an increase of 25.80%, and 385,738 full TEUs, up 26.45%. The United States ranked second in full container traffic with 139,335 TEUs, though it saw a 13.31% decline.
