The Port of Los Angeles handled 840,165 TEUs in May, up 17% compared with the same month last year. Loaded imports reached 449,370 TEUs, increasing 26% year on year. Loaded exports fell 10% to 107,657 TEUs, while empty containers rose 18% to 283,138 TEUs. The port processed 4.12 million TEUs during the first five months of 2026, up 1.4% from the same period last year. Executive Director Gene Seroka said the results reflect the resilience of U.S. consumers and businesses despite ongoing trade policy uncertainty. “We’re seeing cargo move for a combination of reasons, including inventory replenishment, concerns about fuel costs, trade-policy uncertainty and preparation for upcoming retail seasons.” Seroka added that cargo continues to move efficiently through the port. “Our terminals, longshore labor force, trucking companies and rail partners continue to deliver outstanding performance.” He noted that the Port of Los Angeles is operating without vessel backlogs or cargo delays, providing cargo owners with reliable and efficient supply chain services.
