Maersk will introduce a Low Water Surcharge (LWC) on shipments from Europe to Montreal and Halifax in Canada, effective 1 August 2026 until further notice. The surcharge is being implemented on cargo moving to or via the ports of Montreal (CAMON) and Halifax (CAHAL), with rates set at US$150 per 20ft container and US$300 per 40ft and 45ft container . The LWC applies to shipments originating from a wide range of European countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, Türkiye, Israel, Egypt and other markets covered by the carrier’s Europe trade network. Maersk said the surcharge will apply to both SPOT and non-SPOT bookings based on the applicable Price Calculation Date (PCD) or vessel departure date, depending on the booking type, and will remain in force until further notice.
