SAAM Towage has signed an agreement with Sanmar Shipyards for the construction of five new tugboats. The vessels form part of SAAM Towage’s fleet renewal and investment strategy through 2030. SAAM said the new tugs will gradually join its fleet and support customer growth across multiple markets in the Americas. “This agreement is part of a long-term roadmap to continue strengthening our fleet,” said Hernán Gómez, CEO of SAAM. “Each new tug is designed to meet a specific operational need and will provide safe, reliable and high-quality service.” The new vessels will be based on designs from Robert Allan Ltd. . They will feature Firefighting 1 systems, Kongsberg azimuth thrusters and CAT engines. The tugboats will offer bollard pull capacity ranging from 70 to 80 tons, supporting demanding harbour operations. SAAM said the vessels will operate in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and Chile. The agreement further expands the partnership between SAAM and Sanmar, which has already delivered 13 tugboats to the company. With the latest order, SAAM aims to strengthen its position as one of the leading towage operators in the Americas while modernizing its regional fleet.
