Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co (NBOSCO) is continuing its containership fleet expansion with a fresh order for four 4,300 teu vessels at Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. The newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and follow the company’s earlier plan announced this year to invest up to $278m in this series. While the yard was initially to be selected via competitive bidding, NBOSCO has again opted for Huangpu Wenchong, a familiar builder in its fleet renewal programme. The move follows close behind a separate deal for four 2,700 teu boxships signed earlier this year, at the same yard. Those ships are priced at around $48m each, with handovers expected in 2027. The latest investment brings NBOSCO’s disclosed 2025 shipbuilding programme to eight feeder and mid-size boxships, with a combined value of more than $420m. The Shanghai-listed subsidiary of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group currently operates a fleet of more than 80 vessels and sits 25th on Alphaliner’s global carrier ranking. The company has more than 10 ships on order. NBOSCO has framed the latest order as part of a broader effort to streamline its operations, stating the new ships will help “optimise fleet structure” and “enhance route service capability and competitiveness.” googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); });
