Offshore rig owner Seadrill has landed rig contracts and extensions in Angola and the US part of the Gulf of Mexico. The deals were awarded to the 2014-built drillship West Neptune, the 2013-built semisubmersible drilling rig Sevan Louisiana, and the 2019-built drillship Sonangol Quenguela. The West Neptune was awarded a contract with LLOG Exploration in the US Gulf of Mexico. The four-month program is expected to begin in direct continuation of the current contract, adding approximately $48m to the backlog. The drillship is already working for LLOG. It started its first program in May this year. A new deal was signed later in the year and took effect in November. The second deal will end in May 2026. After the newest contract ends, the rig will stay with the company until autumn. Also in the US Gulf, the Sevan Louisiana won a contract from an undisclosed operator for a two-month program, which is expected to commence in direct continuation of the current contract with Walter Oil and Gas, set to end in January 2026. The campaign will also feature the maiden deployment of the Trendsetter well-intervention equipment in the region. In Angola, a five-well option has been exercised, which extends Sonangol Quenguela’s operations by approximately ten months, committing the rig into February 2027. The option will kick in after the current deal ends in April 2026. The rig is operated by Sonadrill, a 50:50 venture between Seadrill and Sonangol. The company also operates the West Gemini and Sonangol Libongos drillships on bareboat charter.
