NorthStandard has partnered with SGM Technology to provide its members with access to the PntGuard platform, designed to protect vessels against GNSS jamming and spoofing. The agreement will allow NorthStandard members to access PntGuard at a 15% discount. The technology will also join NorthStandard’s GetSET! portfolio of Safety & Efficiency Technologies. PntGuard provides independent vessel position GNSS jamming and spoofing can disrupt or manipulate the positioning information used by crews for navigation and situational awareness. According to NorthStandard, the growing problem also creates compliance and claims risks for shipowners and operators. PntGuard provides continuous and authenticated vessel positioning independently of GNSS. The system uses NAL Technologies’ assured positioning, navigation and timing (APNT) solution and the Iridium PNT satellite service. It compares a vessel’s GNSS data with an authenticated positioning signal. If GNSS interference is detected, the system provides visual and audible alerts while continuing to report the vessel’s position. Shipping faces growing GNSS interference “PntGuard enables early warning of interference events, upholding navigational resilience and situational awareness,” said Colin Gillespie, Global Head of Loss Prevention, NorthStandard. “Its use will reduce Member exposure to navigation-related incidents.” Alexander Wiik, Chief Commercial Officer at SGM Technology, said GNSS interference is no longer limited to conflict zones. “By comparing the ship’s GNSS feed with a fully authenticated signal, PntGuard gives instant visual and audible alerts when GNSS fails,” he added.
