Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA (KCC) has taken delivery of MV Baltazar from New Yangzi Shipyard in China. The vessel is KCC’s third and final contracted third-generation CABU newbuilding. Its delivery completes the company’s CABU III newbuilding programme. Moreover, MV Baltazar brings KCC’s fleet to 19 combination carriers. Designed for Australian trades MV Baltazar will carry caustic soda solution to Australia and return with dry bulk commodities. According to KCC, the vessel has around a 35% lower carbon footprint than its first-generation CABU vessels. It also offers approximately 20% higher earnings capacity. Energy-efficiency technologies MV Baltazar incorporates several energy-efficiency measures also installed on sister vessels MV Balder and MV Bastion. These technologies include: Air lubrication system Shaft generator EcoEGR fuel-optimised main engine Mewis duct In addition, MV Baltazar features two bound4blue eSAIL® suction sails. Therefore, it becomes the first vessel in KCC’s fleet to use wind-assisted propulsion technology. The vessel can also undergo a future retrofit to use zero or near-zero-emission fuels. KCC fleet composition Following the delivery, KCC operates 11 CABU and eight CLEANBU combination carriers.
