The Port of Oakland handled 173,818 TEUs in August 2026, with full exports increasing 2.9% from July. Combined loaded cargo totalled 131,666 TEUs, down 9% compared to August 2025, while empty container volume reached 42,152 TEUs, down 11.4% year-on-year. The port recorded 82 vessel calls in August, compared to 90 in the same month last year. Year-to-date loaded cargo is down 2.5 percent, with full imports declining 4.6 percent partially offset by full exports up 0.2 percent. Empty container movements are down 11.4 percent year-to-date. Acting Maritime Director Jason Garben described loaded cargo volumes as remaining relatively stable year-to-date, with exports slightly ahead of last year, and expressed focus on building on that foundation through closer engagement with ocean carriers, shippers and terminal partners to identify growth opportunities and attract more customers to the Oakland gateway.
