ZeroNorth has launched Propel, a new agentic AI platform for maritime operations. Cargill, Ultrabulk and CMB.TECH have joined the project as launch partners. The new platform aims to automate repetitive tasks in daily shipping operations. As a result, operators can spend more time on decisions that require human judgement. Propel initially focuses on voyage optimisation. However, ZeroNorth plans to expand the platform to vessel and fuel operations over time. Wider commercial availability is expected later in 2026. Propel targets daily shipping operations Shipping companies are facing increasingly complex operating conditions. Geopolitical disruption, regulatory changes and volatile fuel prices are creating new challenges. At the same time, operators must coordinate decisions across several vessels and different systems. According to ZeroNorth, better coordination can save both time and fuel across a fleet. Propel uses AI agents to support this process. Unlike traditional software that mainly provides information or recommendations, the platform can also carry out specific tasks. The technology can respond to changing conditions while working within limits set by operators. Voyage optimisation is the first step Propel’s first AI agent focuses on voyage optimisation. The agent can create a voyage plan and communicate with the vessel’s master. It can also receive feedback, update the plan and respond when conditions change. Meanwhile, the operator remains involved throughout the process. ZeroNorth said this approach can reduce hours of manual coordination for operations teams. It can also help operators respond faster when new voyage opportunities emerge. The voyage optimisation agent has already been used by ZeroNorth’s Professional Services team for three months.
