MSC Air Cargo has ordered five Boeing 777-8 Freighters, expanding its all-Boeing freighter fleet as it prepares for future growth in the global air cargo market. The order, previously listed as unidentified in Boeing’s order book, marks MSC Air Cargo’s first purchase of the new-generation 777-8 Freighter. The aircraft will join the carrier’s existing 777 Freighter fleet. Boeing said the 777-8 Freighter will offer the highest payload and the lowest fuel consumption, emissions and operating costs per tonne among large freighters. The aircraft combines new technologies from the 777X programme with features from the current 777 Freighter. Jannie Davel, CEO of MSC Air Cargo, said the order supports the company’s long-term growth strategy and will improve efficiency, range and cargo capacity while supporting more sustainable operations. Boeing noted that widebody freighters carry around 75% of global air cargo, with demand expected to grow further as e-commerce continues to expand. Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, said the new aircraft will strengthen MSC Air Cargo’s global network by improving connectivity between its hubs and key international markets. Boeing has now secured more than 80 orders for the 777-8 Freighter, with MSC Air Cargo becoming the third Europe-based cargo airline to order the aircraft.
