Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a new 1,100 TEU container feeder , targeting regional and international feeder operations. The new Container Feeder (CFe) 1100 combines a fuel-efficient hull with hybrid technology and preparations for future methanol and battery propulsion. The vessel joins Damen’s existing CFe 800 and wider cargo vessel portfolio. Hybrid system comes as standard The CFe 1100 is equipped with a hybrid PTO/PTI system as standard . In PTO mode, the main engine generates electricity for onboard consumers, including reefer containers. This can reduce the need to operate auxiliary generator sets. The PTI function provides an electric boost when additional power is required. Damen said this can support higher speeds and improve manoeuvring while allowing the main engine to remain optimised for economical operation. Design prepared for methanol and batteries Damen has designed the CFe 1100 for possible future conversion to methanol propulsion . The engine room includes reserved space and system arrangements to support a later conversion. The aft cargo hold can also accommodate a future methanol tank. The fuel preparation arrangement will be verified by classification society DNV. A separate battery room has also been incorporated into the design, allowing future battery integration alongside methanol propulsion. The vessel can additionally be fitted with the Damen Air Cavity System (DACS) . The technology creates a layer of air beneath part of the hull to reduce resistance. Other options include shore power, the Damen Duct, pre-swirl fins and flow optimisers around the propeller and rudder. Flexible arrangement for different container sizes The cargo holds use fixed cell guides designed to accommodate 20-, 40- and 45-foot containers within the same arrangement. Damen has also optimised the deck layout to accommodate different container combinations without unnecessarily reducing capacity. Hydraulically operated pivoting hatch covers are designed to
