Port of Corpus Christi customers moved 55.8 million tonnes of commodities through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the second quarter of 2026, establishing the best single quarter in the port’s history and surpassing the previous record of 54.5 million tonnes set in the first quarter of 2026. The consecutive record quarters combined to produce the strongest first half in port history, with 110.3 million tonnes handled in the first six months of 2026, a 7.7% increase over the previous first-half record of 102.4 million tonnes recorded in the same period of 2025. Growth across the first half was broad-based across multiple commodity categories. Liquefied natural gas volumes rose 36.3 percent to 11.5 million tonnes, representing the most significant year-on-year gain in percentage terms. Agricultural commodities reached 2.1 million tonnes compared to 189,000 tonnes in the first half of 2025, reflecting a substantial expansion in this segment. Refined products grew 8.9 percent to 17.1 million tonnes, other bulk liquids increased 11.7 percent to 8.2 million tonnes and natural gas liquids rose 18.4 percent to 914,606 tonnes. Crude oil shipments remained the dominant commodity at 66.0 million tonnes, a 1.28 percent increase year-on-year. Partially offsetting these gains were declines in dry bulk, down 7.3 percent to 4.2 million tonnes, and breakbulk cargo, down 3.5 percent to 191,457 tonnes. CEO Kent Britton attributed the record performance to continued customer confidence in the port and its infrastructure, highlighting the completion of the ship channel improvement project last year as a key enabler of the volume growth across multiple commodity categories and the port’s expanding role in connecting US products to global markets.
