The Port of Oakland handled 181,356 TEUs in June 2026, a 7.7% increase compared to June 2025, driven by solid growth across both imports and exports. Loaded container cargo rose 10.3 percent year-on-year to 143,254 TEUs, marking another month of strength in productive cargo movement through Northern California’s international trade gateway. Full imports reached 78,114 TEUs, up 11.1% year-on-year, while full exports increased 9.3% to 65,140 TEUs. Empty container volume declined 1.1% to 38,102 TEUs. Vessel calls rose to 81 from 77 in June 2025, supporting the increase in cargo throughput. Jason Garben, Port of Oakland Acting Maritime Director, described June as a solid month with growth in both import and export categories, expressing encouragement at the continued strength in loaded cargo while reaffirming the port’s focus on reliable and efficient service for customers. Through the first six months of 2026, the Port of Oakland has handled 1,114,665 TEUs, down 2.5% compared to the same period last year. The year-to-date decline reflects lower empty container repositioning activity, while loaded cargo increased 0.3% over the first half of 2025, indicating that underlying productive trade flows have remained broadly stable despite the headline volume reduction.
