The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 15,555,241 tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2026, a 16% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, consolidating its position as a key driver of Mexican foreign trade and national logistics. A total of 879 vessel arrivals were recorded during the period, reflecting strong confidence from shipping lines and the productive sector in the port’s infrastructure and operational capabilities. Containerised cargo accounted for 49 percent of total throughput, followed by mineral bulk at 36 percent, general cargo at 5 percent, with vehicles, agricultural bulk, petroleum fluids and other fluids comprising the remaining 10 percent, confirming the operational diversification that characterises the port. In the container segment, the port handled 1,343,307 TEUs, a 6 percent increase on the first half of 2025. The volume was evenly split between imports and exports at 25% each, with transshipment operations accounting for the remaining 50%, reaffirming Lázaro Cárdenas’s strategic importance as a Pacific connectivity and international trade logistics hub. In terms of modal distribution, 72% of cargo evacuation was carried out by road and 28% by rail. Automotive cargo reached 312,649 units during the period, with 69% corresponding to imports, 29% to exports and 2% to transshipment, cementing the port’s role as one of Mexico’s principal vehicle distribution centres.
