Neptune Pacific completed its first heavy-lift voyage to Norfolk Island in August 2026, delivering critical equipment for the local community. The specialist operation used a crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 18.5 tonnes. Cargo transported aboard the LCT Norfolk included an elevated work platform truck, firefighter training equipment and an excavator. The vessel also carried two 20-foot ISO tanks and standard containers. Complex unloading operation completed safely Norfolk Island sits in the South Pacific Ocean between Australia and New Zealand. Its limited port infrastructure requires vessels to transfer cargo ashore through lighterage operations. Neptune Pacific said several months of planning and favourable weather helped the vessel, lighterage and stevedoring teams complete the unloading operation safely. The work took approximately one and a half days. “The ability to deliver specialised resources that support essential services on the island, while completing the operation safely and efficiently, is a great outcome for everyone involved,” said Caroline Erwin, Agency Manager for Norfolk Island at Neptune Pacific. Scott Hackney, Manager of Infrastructure and Services at Norfolk Island Regional Council, said the vessel’s heavy-lift capability enabled the territory to receive critical equipment. “These assets are essential to the ongoing operation of our power and emergency services and will support the delivery of critical services to the community,” said Hackney. Neptune Pacific has served Norfolk Island for almost 30 years. It currently operates the dedicated Norfolk Island Express service using the purpose-built LCT Norfolk. Following the successful voyage, the company said it would consider further opportunities to conduct similar heavy-lift operations.
