Carlos Slim-owned Mexican conglomerate Grupo Carso has decided to buy Lukoil’s stake in the Ichalkil and Pokoch offshore oil fields. Grupo Carso will buy Lukoil subsidiary, Fieldwood Mexico, for $270m and pay off $330m of Fieldwood’s debt to its parent firm. The conglomerate initially bought a 50% stake in the fields, a 58 sq km block off the coast of Campeche, from Petrobal in 2024. Lukoil has already tried to sell all of its international assets to Swiss-based commodity trading giant Gunvor in October last year. Lukoil said that it decided to sell the assets of Lukoil International GmbH due to “restrictive measures against the company and its subsidiaries by some states”. However, Gunvor bailed from the intended buy after the US Treasury called it Russia’s “puppet” and stated that Washington was against the acquisition. In other recent news, Ukraine hit three of Lukoil’s largest offshore oil fields in the Caspian Sea in recent weeks – Vladimir Filanovsky, Yuri Korchagin, and Valery Greifer – leading to a stoppage in production on the fields. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsMexico Russia
