Image Credit: Cosco Shipping China ’s Cosco Shipping has named its new LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier. The 88,000 m3 vessel was named Chang Ping Yuan , the firm said in a social media post on Thursday . The vessel is equipped with an LPG dual-fuel engine, capable of running on LPG or conventional marine fuels. Cosco said the vessel can cut CO2 emissions by around 20% . LPG remains a niche alternative marine fuel, with its use concentrated almost entirely in gas carriers. Classification society DNV data shows that the global LPG-fuelled fleet currently comprises 179 vessels, with a further 160 expected to enter service by 2030 . LPG carriers account for 165 of the existing LPG-fuelled vessels.
