Svitzer has ordered six additional 29-metre TRAnsverse tugs from Cheoy Lee Shipyards. The new contract takes the number of TRAnsverse 2900 tugs ordered from Cheoy Lee to 14 . The agreement comes as the first of eight previously ordered vessels nears sea trials in Zhuhai, China. Deliveries to begin in 2028 The six new tugs will offer 80 tonnes of bollard pull . They will be biofuel-ready and prepared to meet IMO Tier III requirements. The vessels will also be ready for Firefighting Class 1 (FiFi1). Deliveries under the latest contract are scheduled to begin in early 2028 . “As our TRAnsverse fleet expands, we are giving customers greater flexibility to optimise their operations,” said Kasper Karlsen, Chief Operating Officer at Svitzer. He added that the vessels will support more efficient and resilient maritime supply chains. Svitzer expands TRAnsverse fleet The latest order brings the number of TRAnsverse vessels currently under construction for Svitzer to 20 worldwide . According to the company, more than three-quarters of its tugs on order are now based on the TRAnsverse design. The range is available in 26-metre, 29-metre, 32-metre and 35-metre versions. It can also use electric, hybrid or conventional diesel propulsion configurations. Designed for harbour and escort towage The 29-metre version is designed for both harbour and escort towage. Svitzer said its hull and propulsion arrangement allows the tug to work in different positions around an assisted vessel. “The 29-metre version of the TRAnsverse tug is a very versatile tug design capable of covering applications from escort towage to harbour towage,” said Thomas Bangslund, Head of Innovation at Svitzer. Meanwhile, the first TRAnsverse 2900 being built by Cheoy Lee is in the final stages of construction. Sea trials are expected to take place in Zhuhai.
