MacGregor has secured orders to supply deck cranes, handling equipment and deck machinery for four new oceanographic research vessels . Two vessels will be built in Spain for Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). The other two will be constructed in India for the Geological Survey of India (GSI). Four research vessels in Spain and India GONDAN Shipbuilders will build the two BSH vessels in Spain. Titagarh Naval Systems Limited will construct the other two vessels in India for GSI. MacGregor booked the orders during the second and third quarters of 2026. Equipment deliveries will begin in 2027 and are scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2029 at the latest. MacGregor to supply cranes and winches MacGregor’s scope covers a range of equipment needed for scientific and oceanographic operations. The package includes CTD single-line winches, wire winches, oceanographic winches and corer winches. MacGregor will also provide survey boat and CTD davits, deck cranes, stern A-frames and ROV telescope booms. Corer handling systems and cradles are also included. The equipment will support research activities including ocean observation, climate studies and marine biodiversity monitoring. Equipment designed for scientific operations MacGregor said it worked with the shipyards and vessel designers during the development stages of the projects. “Research vessels are central to oceanographic research, providing vital data for fields like climate science and marine biology,” said Tomas Hakala, Executive Vice President, Global Services at MacGregor.
