The Port of Gdańsk handled a record 41.7 million tonnes of cargo during the first half of 2026, an increase of 9% compared with the same period last year, driven by strong growth in container traffic and general cargo. Container throughput reached nearly 1.6 million TEUs, representing a 23% year-on-year increase. The port’s Baltic Hub Container Terminal handled 13.8 million tonnes of cargo, up 18% from the first half of 2025. Overall, general cargo volumes rose 17% to 15.2 million tonnes, accounting for 36% of total throughput. Liquid fuels remained the largest cargo segment, representing 45% of total cargo, with 18.8 million tonnes handled during the six-month period. The port also recorded strong growth in other cargo categories. Coal volumes increased 51% to 4.3 million tonnes, while grain rose 13% to nearly 1.3 million tonnes. Ore handling increased 7% to 173,000 tonnes, and timber recorded the fastest growth, rising 178% to 81,000 tonnes. Between January and June, the Port of Gdańsk welcomed 2,193 vessels, including 1,793 merchant ships. Ferry services carried 46,000 passengers, while 16 cruise ships brought more than 11,000 passengers to the port. Port of Gdańsk President Dorota Pyć said the results reflect the port’s growing strategic role in European supply chains. “Such a significant increase in cargo handling figures confirms the growing scale of the Port of Gdańsk’s operations and its strategic importance to the economy,” she said. “The continuing upward trend, supported by stable demand for port services and the further development of key cargo handling segments, may translate into another record-breaking year for the Port of Gdańsk.” Imports totalled 27.8 million tonnes, led by liquid fuels with 12.6 million tonnes.
