Maersk will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on shipments from several Far East Asian markets to India and Nepal. The surcharge will apply to cargo destined for Visakhapatnam and Kattupalli in India, as well as Nepal. For most origins, the PSS will take effect on 26 August 2026. For exports from South Korea, it will apply from 29 August. The surcharge will remain in place until further notice. Maersk sets PSS at up to US$1,200 Maersk will apply a surcharge of US$1,000 for all 20-foot containers. For all 40-foot containers, the PSS will be US$1,200. The same US$1,200 charge will apply to 45-foot high-cube dry containers. The rates are: All 20-foot containers: US$1,000 All 40-foot containers: US$1,200 45-foot high-cube dry containers: US$1,200 The origin range covers China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. It also includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and the Philippines. Brunei, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Timor-Leste are also included. PSS does not apply to SPOT bookings The surcharge applies to non-SPOT bookings and will be determined by the relevant Price Calculation Date (PCD). For non-FMC shipments, the PCD is based on the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated shipments, Maersk will use the last container gate-in date. The carrier confirmed that the new PSS will not apply to SPOT bookings.
