Maersk has announced new emergency cost measures affecting shipments to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and inland transportation across the Benelux region . The carrier will introduce a US$500 per container Emergency Operational Cost Recovery surcharge (OCR) for contract bookings to the UAE. It is also applying temporary fuel-related adjustments to inland transportation in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. US$500 emergency surcharge for UAE shipments Maersk’s new OCR will apply to shipments from all regions worldwide, excluding Far East Asia, to the UAE . The surcharge is US$500 per container and applies to dry, reefer and special containers. For non-regulated countries, the OCR takes effect on 15 September 2026 . For regulated countries, including the United States, Brazil, Korea, Vietnam and Taiwan, the effective date is 9 October 2026 . Maersk said the emergency surcharge will remain in place until further notice. It applies only to contract bookings. Benelux inland fuel fees reach 12% Separately, Maersk is adjusting its Intermodal Fuel Fee for landside transportation in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg . The carrier attributed the measure to higher global energy prices and fuel availability pressures linked to the security situation in the Middle East. From 14 to 28 September , truck transportation will face a 12% fee . Barge and BCO movements will also carry a 12% adjustment , while the rate for RCO will be 6% . The percentages will be applied to Maersk’s Import Haulage Inland and Export Haulage Inland charges. Maersk said the surcharge levels will be reviewed every two weeks because of energy market volatility. For FMC shipments, the Intermodal Fuel Fee will apply from 13 October 2026 .
