Maersk has announced new surcharge measures covering trades from the East Coast of South America and inland shipments across the Nordic region. The changes include a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) of up to US$1,000 per container. Maersk is also introducing a temporary Emergency Inland Fuel/Energy Surcharge in several Nordic markets. South America PSS reaches US$1,000 From 8 October 2026 , Maersk will introduce and revise its PSS from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. For shipments to the West Coast of South America , the surcharge will be US$1,000 per dry container . Cargo moving to the Caribbean and U.S. Gulf Coast will face a surcharge of US$500 per dry container . The charges apply to all dry container sizes. The effective date is based on Maersk’s Price Calculation Date (PCD). Other applicable local and contingency charges may also apply. Emergency surcharge introduced in Nordic region Separately, Maersk will introduce an Emergency Inland Fuel/Energy Surcharge for Store Door shipments in several Nordic and Baltic markets. The measure takes effect on 9 September 2026 and will remain in place until further notice. Maersk attributed the temporary surcharge to higher fuel costs linked to disruption of fuel supplies from the Middle East. The highest charge will apply in Estonia at 20% . Denmark will face a 13% surcharge, followed by Latvia at 12% and Sweden at 9%. The surcharge will be 5% in Finland and 4% in Lithuania. Maersk currently lists the surcharge for Norway at 0% . Rates to be reviewed weekly The emergency charge applies to Store Door shipments with a PCD from 9 September onwards. Maersk said electric truck and rail solutions are currently not affected by the measure. The carrier will review the percentages weekly as conditions develop.
