US gasoline inventories hit 5-year high in Oil & Companies News 23/01/2026 U.S. gasoline inventories climbed to their highest level in nearly five years last week, while demand fell to a three-year low, according to data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Wednesday. Gasoline stockpiles rose by approximately 5.98 million barrels to reach 256.99 million barrels in the week ended January 16, marking the highest level since February 2021. The build in inventories coincided with a significant drop in gasoline demand. U.S. gasoline product supplied, which serves as a proxy for demand, decreased by 1.78 million barrels per day (bpd) to 21.01 million bpd, the lowest level since January 2023. The four-week average for gasoline product supplied also declined, falling by 109,000 bpd to 19.98 million bpd, which represents the lowest level since January 2024. The EIA report also showed increases in distillate inventories across multiple regions. U.S. distillate stockpiles rose to their highest level since January 2024, while East Coast distillate supplies reached levels not seen since January 2025. Gulf Coast distillate inventories climbed to their highest point since August 2021.
